Irvo Otieno Obituary: Death Video Reddit

A video that has gone viral on social media, including Reddit, shows brutal behavior toward a man named Irvo Otieno.

Social media is swarmed with the obituary for Otieno and rage for the police officers who mistreated Irvo till he died.

Irvo was brought into the admission room of Central State Hospital in Dinwiddie County, Virginia, on March 6.

In the silent video, Otieno is handcuffed and in leg irons before being led to a chair.

Roughly eight minutes later, two officers are shown holding him on the ground and reacting when he moves.

They eventually lose their grip on him, causing him to roll across the floor, and afterward, more officers and hospital staff arrive to restrain him.

Eventually, at least nine people are seen piling on top of him to hold him down while other hospital staff looks on. The video shows that he was held down for 11 minutes.

The Washington Post obtained the video by accessing Dropbox links included in a public court filing.

This is part of prosecutor Baskervill’s obligation to provide relevant information to the defense lawyer.

The family of Otieno is seeking clarification regarding his death, particularly why no one stepped in to prevent his death.

At a news conference on Thursday, Otieno’s older brother, Leon Ochieng, asked why his brother was no longer alive.

In addition, a GoFundMe page titled “Justice for Irvo Otieno” was created by Ochieng, who stated that “being mentally ill should not be a death sentence.”

The preliminary report from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has identified asphyxiation as the cause of death.

The Washington Post obtained a video of Otieno being restrained, and attorney Ben Crump, representing Otieno’s family, has criticized the brutal nature of the restraint.

Defense attorneys did their best to block the video from being released, but prosecutor Ann Cabell Baskervill has stated that she plans to make it public on Tuesday.

Seven Virginia sheriff’s deputies and three hospital employees have been charged with second-degree murder concerning Otieno’s death.

The grand jury in Dinwiddie County is set to meet on Tuesday to determine the final charges.
