#repost @foodly_madly_deeply ・・・ Just done watching Asma Khan’s @asmakhanlondon episode on Chef’s Table. I am teary eyed and so inspired! It’s an honour and sheer joy to see that the food we grew up eating and our mother taught us can go beyond the boundary of our homes and wow the world! This is my favourite episode so far! The caramelising of onions for the dum biryani, the steaming hot cups of chai and the tray filled with deep fried pooris, everything reminds of the joy and comfort of home cooked food. While Indian food was largely perceived as spicy, I feel proud that its getting the place it has always deserved. You’re an inspiration @asmakhanlondon! #womensupportwomen #chefstable #thebestchefsoftheworld

She Now Has A Cookbook!

That’s right. You can now enjoy cooking up Asma’s recipes at home.

The book is called “Asma’s Indian Kitchen: Home-cooked Food Brought to you by Darjeeling Express”.

So, where can you find Darjeeling Express?

I had a hunch and bought it before watching the Chefs Table episode, which then sealed the deal. I advise everyone else to take the plunge. Beautifully presented and really simple. @Asma_KhanLDN pic.twitter.com/kJlf5IvGW5

She Wasn’t Always Set to be a Chef…

Believe it or not, Asma was once a law student.

She attended university and even pursued a PhD in British Constitutional Law at Kings College London.

Nevertheless, she followed her true passion in the end. Some were simply born to be chefs!

Asma began her adventure when registering for a food business in 2o12.

It all began as a supper club from her Kensington home.

We are so proud of Asma Khan @asmakhanlondon for becoming the first British Chef to be featured on @chefstablenetflix! Fave line in the episode: “My aim is for you to leave like someone has embraced you. That’s how food should be.” And that’s truly how it feels to dine at her restaurant @darjeelingldn. Asma’s story is remarkably profound, deeply painful and personal at times, and for those of us who are immigrants, have lived the “Desi” woman struggle (ya’ll know what I mean), or have endured abundant streams of unsolicited comments, opinions, and advice from our immigrant families or communities, the episode is incredibly resonating and liberating. Cried watching this 🤧😭 Asma has opened her doors for us, allowing us to overcome our inexperience and personal doubts. In 2018, she handed over her entire restaurant to us newbies so we could serve a formal afternoon Kashmiri tea service to Londoners. Thank you for trusting us to not burn your restaurant down 🤪 We wish you continued success Baji and hope this is not the last time we see you on TV! #desiwonderwoman #muslimwomenrising #greatbritishwomen #proudfans #womensupportingwomen #womeninfood
