I love making pom pom crafts because they are so easy to make and the boys can really participate in the fun. Last year I shared my somewhat unorthodox method for making pom poms as well as some fun crafts for them. This year we made Pom Pom Pumpkins and they are as cute as can be! Such a fantastic addition to our Halloween decor! There are endless variations so you can create your Pom Pom Pumpkin to fit your unique style.

Here’s what you’ll need:
yarn
stem {popsicle sticks, twigs, acorns, cinnamon sticks, etc.}
googly eyes
leaves
felt
pipe cleaner

5 SECRETS TO GETTING DINNER ON THE TABLE...FAST!

I love pom pom crafts because the boys are really able to do it on their own for the most part and it’s a lot of fun!

 I have really thorough instructions on my original post if you need clarification of any of the steps.

Start by wrapping the yarn around your fingers. The more fingers you use the larger your pom pom will be. Lay the bundle of yarn on top of a piece of yarn. Pull the yarn up and over the bundle and tie VERY tightly. Turn the bundle over and tie again {and again if necessary} ensuring that the yarn is secured tightly. Cut the loops of yarn all over the bundle. If you want a fuller pom pom, comb the yarn making sure to hold the center tightly so you don’t pull out any strands. Finally just trim the pom pom so it’s nicely shaped.

Here’s an example of a combed pom pom and an un-combed pom pom:

Here you can see the variety of sizes you can make:

You can use a variety of material for the stems – Reece went with a popsicle stick. We just wrapped the pipe cleaner around his finger to get the curl and then secured it to the popsicle stick.

Insert the stick into the pom pom and secure with hot glue if desired.

I really love the shabby chic pumpkin on the left and Reece of course wanted his to look like a jack-o-lantern…

{notice the pumpkin on the right has two different colors of yarn}

Bryce opted for googly eyes and I think his turned out super cute. We added a leaf to the top on some of the pumpkins.

And some more fun shots 🙂
